The New Horizons Band Wants You!
The New Horizons Band program has chapters all over the country, for people who are 50ish and older and want to make new friends and share their love of music. The band is for those who have never before played an instrument and would like to learn in a group setting or who used to play but haven't in some time. The band rehearses at the Cultural Center every Monday at 3:30. If you're interested in joining or would just like to learn more about the band, stop by on a Monday afternoon or call for more information. New members are always welcome!

Polymer Clay Class with Jeanmarie O’Clair
Come learn the fun and easy techniques of polymer clay. This class will focus on blending colors, creating canes, reducing canes, and simple bead designs. Each class will cover one or more designs: Checkerboard, Flower, Leaf, Jellyroll, Spliced, Mosaic, Kaleidoscope, Basket Weave, and Quilt canes. Students can take one or more. Each class is 2 hours long. Thursdays from 10am to noon, starting March 4 and running until further notice. The fee is $5 per hour. For information or to register, call 508-394-7100.
Irish Literature Classes
Explore the vast literature of Ireland from its antiquity to the present with Instructor Mary Ann Eaton. This course will give you an intense overview of the key literary eras and genres, a timeline of literature that will leave you with the knowledge and thirst to continue exploring and reading on your own. Some of the works to be touched on: ancient tales, folklore, famine literature, journals of the Western Island of the Great Blasket and the Aran Islands, poetry, drama and fiction. Wednesdays from 3-5pm, July 7 - August 25th. The series costs $75.00 with an additional cost of $45.00 for used books. Oil Painting Classes with Joan Brancale
A Demo a Day—Learning from Example
9am-noon, August 24, 31, September 7. This 3-week workshop with accomplished artist and teacher Joan Brancale will begin with landscape and still-life demonstrations designed to give developing artists insights into the picture-making process and exposure to various painting techniques. Following the demo, students will begin their own work and receive individual attention. In this informal and supportive class, Joan will explore fundamentals of composition, value design, color mixing, and various methods of paint application. $100 per person. Call to register.
Tango Lessons with Ballroom Bliss
Four Tuesdays: September 7, 14, 21 & 28. Beginner’s Tango at 7pm. The tango is derived from a blend of Argentine and African American musical rhythms and dance steps born in the Buenos Aires slums and brothels in the 19th Century that emerged as a highly passionate dance once shunned by society. The Tango is characterized by stealthy, cat-like movements with an unmistakeable staccato feel. Get swept away in the story of passion and glory that the Tango creates, while fine tuning your sense of rhythm and leg conditioning. Intermediate Tango at 8pm. In this class we will be teaching the “Silver” level Tango dance curriculum by DVIDA. The pre-requisite for this class is in-depth knowledge and at least 6 months of Tango experience. We will be focusing on advanced technique and styling and intricate footwork. If you are looking for a challenge and advanced moves to incorporate into your repertoire, this class is for you! Make an Heirloom Braided Rug
Six Thursday mornings from 10:00-11:30 a.m., August 26-September 30. Instructor Marge Fallows has been braiding rugs for decades and will help each of her students make a beautiful 2’ x 3’ oval rug. The $75 fee covers all 6 classes; there is an additional $15 supplies fee payable at the first class. No experience necessary. The Portrayal of Women in Irish Literature

As the popularity of the Waltz increased in the late 1700’s, so did it’s tempo, paving the way to the Viennese Waltz. Characterized by its speed as well as a rise and fall and sway, the Viennese Waltz displays a magical elegance. Three Tuesdays: Nov. 2, 9, 16. Beginner’s Rumba at 7pm. Called the “Dance of Love”, Rumba is distinguished by its romantic feel. The most important characteristic of the Rumba is the continuous, flowing Cuban Motion, which gives this dance style it sensual look. By learning the Rumba, you will develop your understanding of Latin rhythms and perfect your partner connection. Intermediate Rumba at 8pm.
