Medea
Sunday, September 5, 7:30-9pm. $10. Adapted from the original by Euripides and Directed by Christopher Lord Compton. Performed by Theater Under the Stairs. Starring Holly Erin McCarthy. The play will be followed by a wine and cheese reception. The story of Medea, who betrays her home for the sake of her lover Jason only to be betrayed by him in turn, is so old as to have been considered ancient by Homer. This production pulls no punches in offering a visceral and immediate tour of Medea's injured and dire soul. Theater Under the Stairs' premiere show gives the Cape an unblinking exploration of isolation, memory and the incomprehensibility of heartbreak.

Tripping Lily in Concert
October 15, 8pm. $15 per person. This young quartet might be described as a string band with pop music sensibilities, or perhaps a cutting edge vocal quartet with acoustic instruments. The Boston Globe called the band”….a genre unto itself.” Tripping Lily went to number one for several weeks on Boston’s Folk Station WUMB. With Demetrius Becrelis (guitar/vocals/ukulele), brother Alex Becrelis (mandolin/vocals), Monica Rizzio (fiddle/vocals/ukulele), and Laird Boles (stringed bass), Tripping Lily blends a unique sound of traditional and contemporary genres. A group of musicians who draw their inspiration from within, Tripping Lily has deeply explored songwriting with their personal and passionate work. Touted as fresh, energetic, and alive, Tripping Lily’s pop-rock groundwork is cross-fertilized with folk music and cutting edge vocal harmonies. The band’s unique ability to absorb traditional music while speaking to the here and now is proof of their versatility as contemporary musicians.

A Gorey Evening at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod
Saturday, October 30, 6-11pm. $125 per person, $225 per couple. THE event of the season. Support the Edward Gorey House, one of the Cape's crown jewels, at the Ninth Goreyfest and Gala, our only major fundraiser of the year. Enjoy great food and drink, camaraderie and live music all in Gorey surroundings. Held at another local treasure ~ the Cultural Center of Cape Cod is excited to be the venue of this annual event. Dress in your Edwardian-era suits and dresses (with a nod to the great man himself). A highlight will be the auctioning of the remainder of Edward's iconic fur coats, both on-line and on-site that evening! (Four-legged lovers and advocates need not feel torn by this, since several animal welfare groups have endorsed the auction, which raises money, not only for the Gorey House, but for the Edward Gorey Charitable Trust, which provides funds annually strictly for the care and welfare of animals, a proud legacy of Edward himself). For information about the event and purchasing tickets, please contact the Gorey House at info@edwardgoreyhouse.org or call 508.362.3909. For more information, visit www.edwardgoreyhouse.org.
Our 2010 Halloween events are part of a town-wide celebration led by the Yarmouth Area Chamber of Commerce and supported by a grant from the Town of Yarmouth Community and Economic Development Committee. We thank them both!
