One of New England’s premiere jazz ensembles, the Bruce Abbott/Fred Fried Quintet featuring vocalist Marcelle Gauvin, turns its talent in tribute to the great songs of Broadway, offering beautiful arrangements of tunes by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Frank Loesser, Stephen Sondheim and others. You’ll hear a stirring medley from West Side Story, a poignant ballad from Porgy and Bess as well as a blockbuster rendition of Cole Porter’s Love For Sale. Marcelle and company will provide narration, giving a tidbit of history and anecdotes about the songs as they follow the chronological curve from the 1900’s to today. Come experience Bruce Abbott on saxophone and flute, Fred Fried on 8-string guitar, Marcelle Gauvin, vocals, Michael Lavoie on bass, and Miki Matsuki on drums. Complimentary refreshments.
