an exhibition by nate olin

soul/less juxtaposes work from several of Nate Olin’s series from the last decade or so. In reverse chronological order: soul/less, the seven panel “piece;” the witch scrolls; the ongoing rag paintings and 21st century Caprichos drawings; freak show; the ongoing icon encaustic series; and unicorn hunt. Each series differs in subject and medium, you might say style. Here is a sample of what to expect from this new exhibition.

“The reason why I work in different styles is because the subject and content often suggest the medium in order to (best) explore the content, and (the medium) becomes its own voice. Not all my series are represented in this show. This exhibit represents the most recent work and a few examples from older series that educated me to this point. The content of all the work remains the same, if not the subject or medium. Different comorbidities develop within and by the viewer.”

"My entire life I have made art. Mine has been a life in which self-expression, communication and the working out of ideas, on a surface that will be looked at by others. The odds that any one of us will support ourselves exclusively through art are low indeed. Some of us have no other choice, we must make art or risk losing an integral piece of ourselves. I have been lucky in many ways. I am one of the ones who must make art.”
