Everything we see, every color we perceive, every subtle tone we enjoy is triggered by light rays hitting the rods and cones in our eyes image forming in our brain. Light is everywhere, permeating our lives much more than simply allowing us to see. The way it falls on us during our day or night helps determines everything from how our day unfolds, when we sleep, how we play, our work and leisure, and especially how we feel.

 

Explaining this process biologically says nothing of the emotions that are also triggered, and one of the aims of this exhibition is to​ "find the light" – to investigate how it weaves its way into our lives through artistic endeavours. It's an emotional expression of the light hitting our eyes, not a scientific one and we hope the expressions of light in this exhibition, across a range of media, move and inspire you.
