Perfect Holiday Gift for Art Lovers & Adventurers

Cultural Center Leads Art Retreat to Scotland

For Immediate Release

Dec. 15, 2022

SOUTH YARMOUTH, Mass.— Looking for that perfect gift for the art lover or adventurer in your life? Look no further. The Cultural Center of Cape Cod has a few spots left on its 10-day Artist Retreat in Scotland for summer 2023. The tour features a stay at an Edinburgh mansion with gourmet meals prepared by Cultural Center Chef Joe Cizynski, as well as trips to Glasgow, Dundee, the Highlands and Isle of Skye.

Cultural Center Arts Educator-in-Residence Susan Overstreet will lead sketching and painting sessions throughout the trip, which runs June 4-13.

“When we travel, we experience heightened awareness and almost sensory overload,” Overstreet said. “But when you stop to sketch and record your feelings in the moment, it enhances the whole experience. You have to slow down and switch to your right brain.”

Overstreet is an accomplished painter and teacher who has traveled the world. On this inaugural trip she will guide tour participants as they sketch and paint their way across Scotland, a country she has visited previously.

“The countryside, rolling hills, mountains and seaports are all perfect for sketching and painting,” she said. “And Edinburgh is the most beautiful city. You are just compelled to sketch it.”

The trip also includes exclusive, behind-the-scenes visits to several museums.

“It is always a great joy to introduce people to the inner workings and hidden gems at incredible museums around the globe,” said Cultural Center Executive Director Molly Demeulenaere, who will lead the trip. “Whether we’re handling a priceless artifact or sitting in a renowned sculptor’s studio while they work, we will go places unique and precious.”

Each participant will be given a Winsor & Newton watercolor kit and a personal journal for sketching. Overstreet will lead drawing and watercolor demonstrations, as well as group and individual lessons on perspective, the figure, landscape, cityscapes and seascapes.

The trip includes accommodation, transportation in Scotland, breakfasts, lunches and select dinners by Chef Joe. For more information, including the full itinerary, click HERE. For more information, contact mollyd@cultural-center.org.
