Cultural Center of Cape Cod BIRD HOUSE Artist in Residency Sculptor Neil Grant Unveils "Hare Spray" Outdoor Sculpture at Cultural Center of Cape Cod’s Hyannis Campus

Hyannis, MA — 9/25/25 — Internationally recognized sculptor and educator Neil Grant of www.granty-art.com is set to debut a new interactive outdoor sculpture titled "Hare Spray" as part of the BIRD HOUSE artist-in-residence program at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. The sculpture will be installed outside the Children’s Art Barn in Hyannis, enriching the space with playful creativity and artistic imagination.

Project Title: Hare Spray

“Hare Spray” is a whimsical yet thought-provoking 54-inch tall sculpture of a hare holding an aerosol spray can. The piece is designed to reflect the spirit of public art and creative expression and will be sited next to the museum’s existing paintable car — a hands-on exhibit that encourages young visitors to explore their creativity.

About the Sculpture

  • Dimensions: Approximately 54” high x 33” wide x 30” deep

  • Materials: Constructed with Pal Tiya, a highly durable fibrous cement sculpting material applied at a thickness of approximately ¾” over a reinforced metal armature. Pal Tiya is engineered specifically for outdoor sculptures, offering exceptional strength and weather resistance.

  • Finish: The sculpture will be hand-painted using outdoor-safe paints and sealed with a UV-protective coating to ensure long-term durability and vibrant color.

Siting & Safety

The sculpture will be securely installed on an existing concrete pad next to the paintable car, with a rubber safety mat placed underneath to soften potential falls. Safety is a top priority, particularly for young visitors:

  • Internal metal armature for structural stability and secure anchoring

  • All edges are rounded to prevent cuts or abrasions

  • No higher than the existing paintable car to limit fall risk

  • Non-toxic materials safe for children to touch in their final state

Follow the Journey: Process Journal on Social Media

As part of the project, a behind-the-scenes process journal will be featured on the Cultural Center of Cape Cod’s social media platforms. Followers will be able to watch the sculpture come to life through regular updates — from initial sketches and material construction to painting and final installation. This journal will give the community an inside look into the artistic process and the making of meaningful public art.
