SOUTH YARMOUTH, MA — November 2025
This fall, the Cultural Center of Cape Cod invites visitors to step into a world where art becomes a universal language. Future Talk, a visionary new exhibition by Cape Cod artist Lauren Lortie, will be on view from November 18 through December 21, 2025, with an opening reception on Friday, December 5, from 4–6pm. Admission is free and open to all.
A World Beyond Words
In Future Talk, Lortie asks a compelling question:
“Our present is built from both our history and our dreams of the future. In this series, I imagine myself as an artist on a new planet, tasked with inventing ways to communicate that resist the divisions of the past.”
Through vibrant color, expressive mark-making, and light, Lortie imagines a world liberated from politics, war, and greed — one where creativity and empathy guide our shared language. The exhibition draws inspiration from the earliest human expressions — cave paintings, hieroglyphics — and reimagines them through a modern lens, suggesting that art itself may be the oldest and most enduring form of communication.
Each work functions as a kind of prototype for a new visual vocabulary, offering glimpses into how humanity might express thought and emotion beyond words.

About the Artist

A lifelong Cape Codder based in Centerville, Lauren Lortie has deep roots in the region’s creative community. She recently completed a residency at Sketchpad, on the Center’s Hyannis campus, where she continued developing her vision of art as a bridge across boundaries.
Lortie holds a Master of Fine Arts from the LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), a Studio Diploma from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, and a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Alongside her studio practice, she is an experienced educator, having taught everyone from preschoolers to college students.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Lortie also shares her love of creativity through the Art Barn Painting Club, a lively program for young artists in grades K–5. Meeting every other Friday through the fall and winter, the club offers children the opportunity to explore color, texture, and imagination through playful, hands-on projects. Her teaching celebrates curiosity, confidence, and self-expression — nurturing the same spirit that fuels Future Talk.
