“NO FIXED ADDRESS” ANCHORS AMBITIOUS SUMMER EXHIBITION SERIES

BASS RIVER, MA — This summer, the Cultural Center of Cape Cod presents a trio of compelling exhibitions that collectively explore the themes of place, transformation, and impermanence. At the heart of the season is the Cultural Center’s signature installation “No Fixed Address” by Jackie Reeves, an immersive, evolving exhibition on view July 26 through September 6, 2025, in the Great Hall and Vault Galleries. It will be complemented by solo shows from Dawn McKenzie in the Sky Light Gallery and Hugo Rizzoli in the Saben Board Room Gallery. The exhibitions are unified by their probing of the fragile, often improvised frameworks we build—physically and emotionally—to house our identities, relationships, and hopes.
“NO FIXED ADDRESS”: A LIVING EXHIBITION AND ARTIST RESIDENCY“
From July 21–25, No Fixed Address will come to life through a dynamic artist-in-residence installation experience, as artist Jackie Reeves transforms the Great Hall into a working studio. Curated by Center Director Molly Demeulenaere, the exhibition takes shape in real time, giving visitors a rare opportunity to witness the artistic process as the installation unfolds. The Cultural Center will document the evolution daily, sharing behind-the-scenes moments and insights across social media. The installation period will culminate in an Opening Reception on July 25 (6–8 PM), with the public invited to observe select segments of the evolving process.
Visitors will also have a chance to hear directly from Reeves during a special Artist Talk on August 9 at 11 AM.

THE FRAGILE FRAMEWORKS OF SHELTER
Reeves’s work challenges traditional ideas of shelter—not just as architecture, but as emotional, transitional, and relational space. Using humble materials like cardboard, foam board, string, and reclaimed domestic scraps, she constructs tenuous forms that evoke both vulnerability and resilience.
Inspired by early exposure to architectural drafting and a lifelong inquiry into the notion that a mark on paper can become a blueprint for something real, Reeves’s conceptual sketches evolve into full-scale structures that capture the tension between intention and improvisation, stability and collapse, hope and uncertainty. Her work invites reflection on “the fragile framework we build our lives around”— how we adapt, rebuild, and find meaning within impermanence.
“A shelter can be physical or emotional, temporary or aspirational,” Reeves explains. “Each structure I create becomes a site of becoming—a way to interpret the flood of life’s stimuli, to hold space for transition, imagination, and the instinct to ‘make do’ while still reaching toward possibility.”
“This exhibition breaks down the walls between artist and audience,” says Molly Demeulenaere. “By welcoming the community into the process, we’re fostering a deeper connection between art, place, and people—especially during a time when housing is redefining our Cape Cod and how Cultural Centers, in general, effectively enmesh to their communities.”
CIVIC ENGAGEMENT THROUGH ART
While “No Fixed Address” is not a literal narrative about the housing crisis on Cape Cod, its thematic resonance is undeniable. In response, the Cultural Center will host a series of panel discussions convening artists, urban planners, housing advocates, municipal leaders, and academics. These conversations will contextualize Reeves’s work within broader civic questions—exploring how communities, particularly those shaped by seasonal flux like Cape Cod, confront housing instability and cultural adaptation.
A BROADER SUMMER SHOWCASE
Dawn McKenzie’s exhibition in the Sky Light Gallery explores topographies of identity and displacement through multimedia works that blend photography, textile, and sound. Her quiet yet potent visual language mirrors the fragmented landscapes of personal history and geographic memory.
Hugo Rizzoli, featured in the Saben Board Room Gallery, presents a minimalist meditation on line, light, and spatial rhythm. His architectural canvases function as quiet anchors, revealing the poetry in constraint and the clarity within limitation.
