SKETCH PAD is housed within a beautifully restored historic property, it serves as a vibrant and welcoming hub for creativity, collaboration, and cultural exchange. This residency offers artists a peaceful yet inspiring setting, complete with comfortable living accommodations, spacious studio spaces, and communal areas designed to encourage interaction and connection. Artists have the opportunity to engage with both peers and the broader community through open studios, public workshops, and curated exhibitions.
SKETCH PAD invites residents to explore and immerse themselves in the natural beauty, rich history, and dynamic arts scene of Cape Cod. The local environment—coastal landscapes, diverse communities, and cultural heritage—provides an ideal backdrop for creative exploration and development.
With a strong commitment to cultural diversity and inclusion, the program regularly welcomes artists from across the globe. By supporting a wide range of artistic voices, Sketch Pad strengthens community ties and fosters meaningful conversations that extend far beyond the studio.
We are thrilled to welcome local artist Lauren Lortie to SKETCH PAD for a multi week residency. Lauren will be working and teaching workshops for adults, teens, and kids and her studio will be open to the public Saturdays & Sundays, 1-6pm or whenever the door is open and the Open flag is flying.
Lauren is a practicing artist and educator with a focus in painting. She is a life-long Cape Cod resident who is passionate about fostering a positive, creative environment for local youth. She has spent time working in Boston and Baltimore collaborating with and learning from artists and educators from across the country and abroad. She proudly infuses those experiences into her artwork.
She is inspired by many things, most recently, science fiction and the possibilities the genre imagines for our future. Her most recent series of paintings are mixed media with an emphasis on painting. She is very excited to challenge these ideas during her residency at Sketch Pad this summer.
Lauren has studied at The School of The Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University (Studio Diploma), Massachusetts College of Art and Design (BFA), and most recently earned her Master's in Fine Arts at the LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting at Maryland Institute College of Art.
Over the past several years, Lauren has been teaching art to students ages 4-18 at Cape Symphony in Barnstable. She is also on staff with the Cape Symphony Preschool as an Assistant Teacher and Art Specialist.

Chuck was born in 1955, the fifth of eight children. He was educated at public schools in North East, Maryland, where he learned a great many facts, most of which have been forgotten. He attended the Philadelphia College of Art, where he learned that art is hard work and requires discipline and commitment.
In 1982 he married Stephanie Mahan of Lincoln, Massachusetts who taught him that sincerity in art, as in life, was rare and valuable and something to strive for. That year he became a graduate student at the University of North Carolina, where he learned that Art History was like a parent, to be treated with respect and eventually to be rebelled against. A daughter, Angela, was born in 1991, and from her he came to understand that his education was just beginning and that she would be able to teach him a lot. His son, Raphael, came along in 1996. From him he learned that some things in life are like a second chance, and that there was still much to learn.
Chuck is now retired, after more than forty years of teaching, most of it at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where he realized that, even as a teacher, he was at his best as a student, learning from his students. His children are now adults, and continue to be a source of wonder and new information. He and Stephanie remain happy partners, each still able to challenge, impress and inspire the other.

Stephanie Stigliano, Printmaker & Book Artist,

Stephanie contributed to a limited edition book inspired by Susan Roney-O’Brien’s poem, The Edge of the Ocean, which was displayed at Zea Mays Printmaking in Florence, MA. Her book, Current Events, was included in Building Books at The University of Southern Maine. Together with three other artists she produced an artist book, Four Women for Freedom, which was created for the FREEDOM Project exhibition shown at the Book Art Museum / Fundacja Correspondance Des Arts in Łódź from October, 2023 and is now part of their permanent collection.
Her books were included in Page Turner at ArtsWorcester and Fresh Ink: Contemporary Explorations in Printmaking at the Umbrella Arts Center in Concord, MA, fall, 2023. In 2024, Bromer Booksellers of Boston, MA hosted an exhibit of her books and prints.
She co-founded of New England Book Artists. She is a long time member of The Boston Printmakers and has served on the board. Stigliano teaches Making Prints/Making Books at Boston College.

Genna Clemen, Installation Artist,

Genna Clemen has made a lasting impact on our Hyannis Campus through her inspiring public art project and engaging summer programming. Her project features an installation of a boulder and three stone obelisks, all adorned with original mosaics, adding vibrant beauty and artistic permanence to the campus. With raw materials donated by Stonewood and many community members, this public art project reflects Genna’s dedication to community art.
This installation highlights the magical natural light on Cape Cod, magic that has served as inspiration to so many artists and residents.
