BIRD HOUSE

Hyannis Campus artist in residence

BIRD HOUSE is a historic residence located on the Cultural Center’s Hyannis Campus. Thoughtfully repurposed, the first floor now serves as a dynamic space dedicated to artistic exploration and community engagement. Functioning as a combined artist-in-residence studio, workshop area, and exhibition space, it is occupied by one artist at a time, offering them an inspiring environment to create and share their work.

As part of the residency, the artist maintains open studio hours, welcoming the public to visit, observe the creative process firsthand, and engage in meaningful conversations about their work. BIRD HOUSE fosters a unique opportunity for visitors to connect with contemporary artists in an intimate, approachable setting.

We are excited to welcome local artist Neil Grant to BIRD HOUSE for a multi month long studio residency. Neil will be working and teaching workshops for adults and teens through 2026, and his studio will be  open to the public TBD  or whenever the door is open and the Open flag is flying.

Neil Grant, Sculptor

August  2025 - present

Neil is an English sculptor who makes fine art through a slightly different lens. An award winning artist, he combines technical skill with storytelling and humor. Neil lives in Cape Cod, Massachusetts where he sculpts out of his studio and across the Cape.

“Sculpture is how I put my thoughts out into the world, and so I try to make sure that they are ideas worth sharing. All sculptures have an origin story, and mine normally begin with questions such as, “I wonder if anyone has ever attempted that in clay before?” or “It’s probably not what you’d call classical sculpture, but I wonder if people would like it?” I love sculpture and any other form of art that fuses skill, emotion, and if it can, a bit of humor. That’s what I aim for in my work."

Project Title: Hare Spray

“Hare Spray” is a whimsical yet thought-provoking 54" tall sculpture of a hare holding an aerosol spray can. The piece is designed to reflect the spirit of public art and creative expression and will be sited next to the museum’s existing paintable car — a hands-on exhibit that encourages young visitors to explore their creativity. The sculpture will be installed outside the Children’s ART BARN in Hyannis, enriching the space with playful creativity and artistic imagination.
