BARBARA AND CHARLIE ADAMS MAKERSPACE

A space devoted to mechanical equipment and instruction that help students and artisans learn and improve skills. It is equipped with a 3-D printer, a heat press, and other machines. Still, it is primarily devoted to lathes and other woodturning equipment used in classes, demonstrations, and meetings managed by the Cape Cod Wood Turners. In addition to on demand classes, the Makerspace is used for mentoring young people through the Center’s Rise and Shine program.

Thanks to support from the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association, this space helps disadvantaged youth acquire the skills and confidence they need to pursue education and employment in various arts and trades. The Cape Cod Wood Turners and the Cultural Center have also collaborated with the JFK Museum in Hyannis and the RFK Children’s Action Corps in South Yarmouth to help Rise and Shine participants create, exhibit, and sell wood work made from materials salvaged when a Kennedy Compound cottage was renovated. The Center welcomes other collaborative projects in all of its creativity studios.
