Bass River, MA – April 28th This spring, the Cultural Center of Cape Cod proudly presents Legends on Canvas, a rare and powerful exhibition that brings the heroes of baseball and football to life through portraiture, storytelling, and treasured historical artifacts. On view from April 28 through May 24, this immersive installation offers a once-in-a-generation chance to experience a private collection never before seen by the public—especially not in a place as deeply connected to the game as Cape Cod.
At the core of the exhibition is a compelling series of works by Arthur K. Miller, an acclaimed portrait artist whose finely rendered depictions of athletic legends have been featured at the Baseball Hall of Fame, the New York Historical Society, and the Louisville Slugger Museum. His signature technique, blending traditional portraiture with distressed, time-worn textures, evokes the feeling of discovering lost treasures in an attic—preserving sports history with reverence and artistry.
“This collection has been a lifelong labor of love,” said collector Brett Husak. “These aren’t only artifacts—they’re pieces of our cultural memory. To share them on Cape Cod, where the love for sports and baseball in particular, runs so deep, is truly an honor. I hope it give viewer as much joy as it has me over the years.”
Few places embody America’s enduring baseball tradition like Cape Cod. With more than a century of homegrown passion for the game, towns like Yarmouth have helped shape the trajectory of countless athletes. That heritage runs quietly but powerfully through the heart of this exhibition.
Exhibition highlights include:
· An original Babe Ruth home run ball
· Rare, museum-quality artwork celebrating iconic moments and athletes
· Interactive storytelling elements and family-friendly programming
· Programming that connects the legacy of national sports legends to Cape Cod’s past
“Cape Cod and baseball go hand in glove,” said Molly Demeulenaere, Executive Director. “We are honored to host this exceptional collection and the rich stories it tells—not only about sports, but about who we are as a community.”
